Ethiopian Coffee Beans – Café du Jour

Ethiopian coffee beans experience a full-bodied cup with subtle fruity and floral notes, rounded out by a gentle, spicy aftertaste. This coffee offers a beautifully balanced profile thanks to a carefully crafted blend of 100% Arabica beans—bringing together everything you want in a great cup: slight intensity, medium body, and medium acidity. Ethiopia is widely regarded as the birthplace of coffee. Legend tells of a young goatherd who noticed his goats became unusually energetic after eating certain red berries, coffee cherries. From around 300 AD until the 15th century, coffee was consumed differently than it is today, with hot water poured directly over the whole berries. It wasn’t until the 1400s that people began roasting the beans, unlocking the rich flavor we know and love today. Café du Jour’s Ethiopian beans are roasted in small batches by a specialist roaster. Freshness is a priority, beans are roasted and stocked weekly, and the roast date is always clearly marked on the label to ensure quality in every bag.

How to brew Ethiopian Coffee

Choose the Right Method

For a full-bodied experience, we recommend using a French press or drip filter. These methods preserve the rich aroma and smooth flavor of Ethiopian Coffee beans. Always use freshly ground beans for best results.

Mind the Ratio and Temperature

Use a 1:15 ratio, that’s 10g of coffee for every 150ml of water. Heat the water to around 92–96°C (198–205°F) to avoid burning the coffee. Let it bloom for 30 seconds before pouring the rest of the water.

Brew and Enjoy Fresh

Brew for 4 to 5 minutes depending on your method. Stir gently and serve immediately to enjoy the coffee’s chocolatey notes and balanced acidity. Avoid reheating, Ethiopian Coffee tastes best when fresh.
